BEFORE YOU SHARE

Aadhaar and ID masker

Hide the Aadhaar number, PAN and QR code on a photo or PDF of an ID before you send it. It is read and masked in your browser; the document is never uploaded.

JPG, PNG or WebP pictures (up to 10), or one PDF of up to 10 pages.

What does it hide?

  • Aadhaar number: the first eight digits are covered and the last four left visible, which is the usual “masked Aadhaar”. A 16-digit virtual ID is covered whole.
  • PAN: covered except its last four characters.
  • QR code: covered, because the code on an Aadhaar card carries the same details as the print.
  • Anything else: add a box and drag it over a photo, signature, address or date of birth.

Can a hidden number be recovered?

No. The download is a new picture with solid black painted over each box, not the old file with a layer on top, and a PDF is rebuilt from those pictures so the text underneath is gone too. No information from the original file is copied into the new one.

Is it certain to find everything?

No, and you should not rely on it. The numbers are found by reading the picture, and a blurred, tilted, dark or low-resolution scan can be misread or missed. That is why every page must be opened before you can download, and why each box can be moved, resized, switched off or added. Check the result yourself before you send it.

Is this the official masked Aadhaar?

No. UIDAI issues a signed masked e-Aadhaar that you can download from the myAadhaar website, and where an organisation asks for that, use that. This tool is for the copy you already have: a photo, a scan, or a PDF someone sent you.
