A writing guide built from common recruiter and applicant-tracking advice, not an employer’s actual screening result. How the score works.

Preview

Start typing and your resume appears here, laid out in the Classic template.

The preview uses your device’s fonts; the PDF embeds Noto Sans, so line breaks can differ slightly. Faint lines mark roughly where pages end.

How the resume score works

The score adds up six checks, worth 100 points together. It runs on this device as you type and is a guide to common recruiter and applicant-tracking (ATS) advice — no tool can tell you how a particular employer’s system is set up.

  • Readable by ATS (25) — Contact details found, standard headings, recognisable dates, and a single-column layout with real text — no scans, text boxes or contacts hidden in the page header.
  • Content impact (30) — Bullets with numbers, strong action verbs, no filler phrases, sensible length.
  • Completeness (15) — The sections expected for your stage, with dates, and no unexplained gaps.
  • Length and format (10) — Word count for your experience, consistent dates, a few bullets per role.
  • Language (10) — Varied verbs, active voice, consistent tense, no shouting, common misspellings.
  • Personal data (10) — No ID numbers; date of birth, religion and similar only where expected.

The job match is separate: paste a job description and it lists the skills and repeated terms it names that your resume does not mention yet. Only add the ones you genuinely have. Writing a resignation letter next? That is here too.

The score is a writing guide, not an employer’s screening result. Your resume is built in your browser; nothing you type is uploaded, and it is kept on this device only if you choose.

About Resume Builder

A resume is read twice: first by an applicant tracking system (ATS) that pulls your name, contact details, jobs, dates and skills into a database, then by a recruiter who usually skims it in under a minute. This builder is designed for both. Its ATS-friendly templates are a single column with text in reading order, standard section headings and real, selectable text, which is what parsers handle best; two-column layouts, text in images and decorative icons are the usual reasons a resume is read out of order.

Choose from ten templates — Classic, Modern, Compact Tech, Harvard, Fresher (India), Executive, Skills-first, Academic CV, Biodata (India) with an optional photo, and Two-column Creative — and switch at any time without retyping. Nine are single-column; the two-column one is marked as risky for ATS and scored that way. Each has its own spacing, heading style and suggested section order, and you can change the accent colour, font and density. The PDF embeds an open-licence font (Noto Sans or Noto Serif), so names with accents, the rupee sign and en dashes print correctly; the Word file uses Arial or Times New Roman for portals such as Naukri that prefer .docx.

As you type, a resume score out of 100 checks six things: whether contact details and headings will be found, how many bullet points show measurable results and start with an action verb, whether the sections expected for your stage are there with dates, length, language, and personal details that are better left out. Paste a job description to see which of its skills and repeated terms your resume does not mention yet.

How to use it

  1. Choose your stage — experienced or fresher. A fresher resume starts with an objective, education, projects and internships.
  2. Fill in your name, email, phone and city, then each section. Write one achievement per line in the bullet boxes.
  3. Pick a template and, if you like, an accent colour, font and spacing. The preview updates as you type.
  4. Work through the score’s suggestions; each one takes you to the field it is about.
  5. Paste a job description to check the match, then make a copy of the resume and tailor it for that role.
  6. Download a PDF or a Word file, or copy the text for portals that ask you to paste it.

Good for

  • A first resume for campus placements and fresher jobs, with CGPA, projects and internships.
  • Updating an experienced resume and keeping it to one or two pages.
  • Keeping several tailored versions, one per kind of role you apply for.
  • Checking which skills from a job description your resume is missing before you apply.

Limits and privacy

  • The score is a guide based on common recruiter and ATS advice. It is not the result of any employer’s system, which can be configured in many ways.
  • Keep personal details such as date of birth, marital status and religion off a resume for private-sector and international jobs; some Indian government and campus forms ask for them. Never include Aadhaar, PAN or passport numbers.
  • Text in Indian scripts may print with unjoined letters in the PDF; the Word file handles it better. Emoji are left out of the PDF.
  • Nothing you type is uploaded. Resumes stay in this browser tab unless you tick “Keep my resumes on this device”, and you can export a resume to a file and open it again later.

Questions

Is this resume builder really free?

Yes. Building, every template, the score, and PDF and Word downloads are free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Should I send a PDF or a Word file?

Follow what the job posting asks for. Otherwise a PDF keeps your layout exactly; some Indian job portals, including Naukri, recommend Word (.docx).

How long should my resume be?

One page is usual for freshers and for up to about ten years of experience; two pages are fine for longer careers. The score flags resumes that are much shorter or longer than usual for your stage.

Does a high score guarantee I will be shortlisted?

No. It means the resume follows common good practice and is easy for software and people to read. Shortlisting also depends on your experience and the role.

Should I add a photo?

Not for most private-sector or international applications, where photos are discouraged and parsers ignore them. The Biodata template has an optional photo for the Indian government and campus applications that expect one; it is cropped and kept small, and the score notes it.
