What a GST invoice must show
- Your name, address and GSTIN, and the customer’s name and address (and their GSTIN if they are registered).
- A serial number of up to 16 characters, unique within the financial year, and the date.
- For each item: a description, HSN or SAC code, quantity, rate, any discount, the taxable value and the GST rate.
- The tax split: CGST and SGST when you and the customer are in the same state, IGST when you are not. This page works that out from the two states.
- The place of supply and your signature.
If you are not registered under GST you cannot charge it: choose “plain invoice” and no tax is added. The GSTIN check here confirms the number is well formed, not that the registration is active; look a customer up on the GST portal if it matters. Work out a single amount with the GST calculator, or make a salary slip.
The invoice shows the figures you enter; check them before sending. The GSTIN check confirms the format only. Everything is generated in your browser; names, addresses and GSTINs are never uploaded.
